Our clients came to me with the vision of creating a warm and inviting basement as a place for family to gather to watch movies, work from home, exercise and have fun-filled game nights. First, we looked at the floor plan to see where we could fit all of these various functions in one level. We divided one large room into the home office and the guest bedroom, repurposed a cold room into the gym and kept the large open space for the games area and included a large sectional for movie watching.
Keeping the house in more of a traditional style we added wall paneling to pull the spaces together and accentuate the height of the ceilings. The warm medium tone oak engineered flooring runs throughout the space and works to give the entire basement a cozy lived in feeling. We have a custom walnut bar millwork and a brick accent tile.
The full piece bathroom, although small was kept with the same footprint, but modernized to include a steam shower and spa-like finishes. The large format marble tiles and black metal accents work to make the space feel larger and provide a sense of luxury.
I foresee many fun-filled gatherings in this basement once construction is completed this fall.
